AMERICAN SPANISH SCHOOL is an aknowledged language school which has been teaching Spanish as a Second Language since 1991. Our curriculum is approved by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education, and our experienced native language teachers, all with 4-9 years of experience,  guarantee successful results.

American Spanish School is located in the modern part of Quito, close to the commercial area, one block from the main Av. Amazonas, surrounded by banks with ATM machines, shopping centers, bars, restaurants, cafes, discotheques, peñas, cultural centers, post offices and close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Migration Office, and other institutions that can be of help to foreigners.

OUR TEACHERS

Each new week of classes you will have another teacher, so you will experience different background and personalities. However, under request you can continue with the same teacher until you wish. 

The basis of our courses is the modern usage of the Spanish Language and we focus on development of understanding of both spoken and written language, as well as the ability to express oneself orally and in writing. Our courses also emphasize pronunciation, style, idioms and grammar.

Individual lessons (one-to-one) are the most intensive form of language learning and ensure the greatest possible success, as you can learn according to your own pace. The lessons are tailored to suit the individual needs of anyone, from those requiring a particularly high standard of language training to those wishing to make maximum progress in minimum time.

This kind of lesson can be adapted according to your present level of knowledge and personal learning needs without having to take other students into consideration. The lessons can focus entirely on the subjects, learning targets and topics required by you and they can deal with technical aspects and vocabulary aimed specifically at you and your professional requirements.

Furthermore, our practical one-to-one teaching methods will enable you to use Spanish successfully and appropriately in everyday situations, in your career and in your studies.

Our individual one-to-one courses , designed to meet the requirements of students who want to make maximum progress in the chosen time require 4 to 6 weeks, 4 to 7 hours per day starting at 08h30 or at 13h30. However, you can take less or more. For beginners, the minimum acceptable is two weeks. Individual lessons are provided in separate cabins where there are only two persons, you and your teacher.

To make our courses more effective we make use of video films and teacher-accompanied visits to places of cultural interest and tourist attractions.

GROUP CLASSES

To give the students the opportunity of sharing the class with other students, we provide also small group classes with 2, 3, 4 or 5 students per class. Group classes are provided in small classrooms.

Included in the program:

• Twice a week visits to places of tourist and cultural interest such as museums, churches and markets in the company of your teacher.
• Conferences about Culture, History and other subjects of interest.
• Gym (every day from Mon to Frid). (Students who take less that 80 hours of lessons will pay US $5 per week to have this service).

• Visits to Indian markets: Otavalo, Cotacachi, San Antonio de Ibarra to see handicrafts, leather goods, carvings, lakes, etc. = US $30 per person.by private transportation
• Visits to Saquisilí to see the animal market and to enjoy the beautiful landscapes on the way = US $15 per person by private transportation.
• Dancing lessons for our students, tropical music: salsa, merengue, cumbia, ballenat: US $5 per hour (one to one)
• Papallacta, 1.5 hours from Quito on the road to the jungle. It is an excellent natural hot spring = US $15 per person by private transportation..
• Baños, surrounded by mountains has hot springs and very beautiful landscapes = US $15 by private transportation..
• NOTE: the above visits will be done with minimum 3 people.
• Guitar, quena and charango classes = US $4 per hour (you must have the instrumen)

• We use books designed by prestigious Ecuadorian and foreign universities to teach Spanish as a Second Language
• Bilingual English-Spanish books edited in USA, Canada and other countries
• Bilingual German-Spanish books edited in Germany
• Bilingual French-Spanish books edited in France
• Spanish books edited in Spain to teach Spanish as a Second Language
• Spanish books edited in Latina American Countries to teach Spanish as a Second Language as well as a native language.
• Charts, chalkboard.
• Tapes
• Videos about the Latin American Culture, Literature and Ecology.
• Our students receive the neccessary books, without extra charge.

VOLUNTARY WORK

Our students have the opportunity to work as a volunteer and in some cases as a paid employee. You need to take a course with us, so we will put in contact with institutions that need volunteers or may need paid employees in teaching, health, ecology conservation area, specially.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:

• Gym (every day from Mon to Frid), Sauna and Turkish bath (Thu to Sat), and hydro massages (Students who take less that 80 hours of lessons will pay US $10 per week to have this service).

During your studies, you can live with one of our selected ecuadorian families who provide a private room, 3 meals daily, laundry and the opportunity to share in the ecuadorian way of life. They are all located 10-30 minutes walking distance from the school. If you prefer you can stay at our hostel in double or triple rooms.

OFFICIAL CERTIFICATES

After completing the course you will receive an Official Certificate of Proficiency issued by the Ministry of Education.

We also include some other activities with or without extra charge depending on the amount of weeks and lessons per week you take:

+ One weekly visit to places of tourist interest after class by private transportation.
+ Homestay includes:
    - A private room and bathroom
    - 3 meals daily
    - Laundry
+ Pick service from the airport
+ E-mail service ( 1 hour per week) if you study minimum 4 weeks, 6 hours per day.
